This month, Mt Keira reopened the camp flat to Scouts for camping only (up to 60 persons). A management plan for use of the site will ensure visitors remain safe whilst some areas and buildings remain closed off for continued rectification works.
During the closure period, Scouts NSW has engaged in complex stakeholder engagement across Crown Lands and Wollongong City Council whilst also investing significant resources to upgrade the wastewater treatment, as well as an arborist to remove a number of unsafe trees. The internet was also upgraded and CCTV installed to enhance security.
Mt Keira is now accepting booking enquiries – email mtkeirabookings@nsw.scouts.com.au with your requested date for further information on specific site facilities and capacities or visit the website.
Cataract Activity Centre – reopening mid-2026

Works at Cataract are progressing to schedule, with the current expected timeline for reopening to be around mid-2026.
Since the closure last year, a significant amount of expert investigation and planning has gone into understanding the works required to bring the buildings and facilities up to current standards of safety and compliance for all visitors. Scouts NSW is currently awaiting DA approval before commencing construction works.
The total scope of works required is significant so the following items will be prioritised:
- The amenities blocks and buildings at Campsites 8 and 6
- The amenities blocks adjacent to activities
- Gumnut Grove accommodation
- Marketplace buildings.
This will ensure the most used areas within Cataract are available to visitors. When Cataract is ready to reopen, all onsite activities will also be available.
Booking enquiries for late 2026 and throughout 2027 can be emailed to cspbookings@nsw.scouts.com.au for more detailed discussions.

Construction of the almost $7 million upgrade of Camp Kurrajong is now underway thanks largely to funding from the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Program – an Australian Government Initiative.
The upgrade will revitalise Scouting in the Riverina, with the inclusion of a new multi-purpose hall; large commercial kitchen and dining; a new 42-bed lodge and an activity tower with a climbing wall and flying fox, in addition to the approximately 350 camping capacity available.
