Scouts gather on NSW Mid North Coast for Rasoree 2024

From the moment they arrived until it was time to travel home, Scouts were climbing, sliding and performing their weekend away at Glenreagh in the Mid North Coast hinterland for Rasoree 2024.

Rasoree 2024 brought Scouts from the ages of five to 25 along with their adult Leaders and helpers from an area bounded by Camden Haven in the south to Murwillumbah in the north for a weekend of fun at Camp Eagle Eye.

Saturday was a fun day with a variety of activities on offer, including the always popular climbing wall, laser tag and billy karts. Also on offer were a series of escape rooms, with the Scouts using teamwork to work out the code to escape the room. This activity was so popular that extra timeslots were offered so no one missed out!

Other activities included circus workshops, a splash zone – complete with a slip ’n’ slide – and the inaugural North Coast Scouts Got Talent. This provided an opportunity for Scouts (and Leaders) to showcase their talents, organised and hosted by two Rover Scouts – Harrison and Evelyn.

Sunday morning brought an opportunity for Scouts to buy and sell an assortment of hand-made souvenirs and collectables at Market Day – a staple activity at most major Scouting events. The currency of the day was the "RAS dollar" and bartering and collecting provided a great opportunity for Scouts of all ages to socialise and connect with Scouts from other locations across the North Coast.

The weekend finished in a burst of colour with a Colour Run. It was hard to tell if the youth members or Leaders enjoyed it more!

North Coast Region Commissioner Belinda Howell said this was the biggest camp in the North Coast since the 2017 floods.

“Scouting is a real mix of traditional and more contemporary activities, and I think we got it right this weekend because our younger people had an awesome time,” she said.

“We pride ourselves on hiding the learning. Everything we do has a purpose behind it, but it’s all wrapped around activities and fun. Behind the camping, hiking, map reading and teamwork is the real development of young people. What they’re actually learning are things like project management, negotiation, health and hygiene, how to deal with conflict and forward planning.”
