National selection for young archer

A love of archery has turned into national selection for 1st Tambourine Bay Scout Group’s Eve Whitear.

The 14-year-old is the first NSW Scout to be selected to represent Archery NSW in the Compound Division in the Archery Australia National Youth Championships. The 2024 competition will be held in Tuggeranong, ACT, in late March.

Her selection is particularly rewarding as she has only been competing for about a year in the under-16 Compound Division.

Eve started as a Cub Scout at age eight, because she saw the fun her older brother was having as a Scout.

She has also loved having the opportunity to share her passions with her fellow Scouts.

“I love being outdoors and kayaking, fishing, hiking, rock climbing and all the other fun activities we do in Scouts,” she said.

“Out of all the things we do at Scouts, I really enjoyed ScoutHike, as well as the Scout archery night we had at the Scout hall. The State Leader Archery came to the hall to do indoor archery with us and it was great fun.”

Eve has been doing archery for about four years with the Ku-ring-gai Bowmen in Lindfield and Warringah Archers in the Northern Beaches.

Like with Scouts, she started the activity because she thought it would be fun.

Congratulations Eve, and good luck at the championships!
