$1.6 million community Scout Hall opens its doors in Hawkesbury

A new $1.6 million Scout Hall has opened in Kurrajong, giving young people across the Hawkesbury a dedicated new home for Scouting and creating a new space for the wider community to use.
Funded by the NSW Government, the Hawkesbury District Community Scout Hall was officially opened on Saturday by The Hon. Peter Primrose MLC, alongside local Scouts, families, volunteers and community members.
“The hall’s revitalisation will enhance its role as a vibrant social gathering place, supporting everything from an exciting youth program to adult Leader training and community workshops,” Mr Primrose said.
“The NSW Government’s commitment to sustainable community projects is exemplified in this upgrade, ensuring the Hawkesbury remains a resilient and thriving community.”
The new facility will provide a dedicated base for local Scouts to take part in activities, develop practical and leadership skills, build friendships and connect with their community. 1st Grose Vale Scout Group will be based at the new hall for their weekly meetings.
Scouts NSW CEO Karen Twitchett said the $1.6 million investment would deliver benefits well beyond Scouting.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of the NSW Government in making this important project a reality,” Ms Twitchett said.
“This Scout Hall will create a lasting legacy for the Hawkesbury community, providing generations of young people with a welcoming space to connect, develop new skills and thrive.”
“Importantly, the hall will also serve as a valuable community space, bringing together and strengthening the connections that make the Hawkesbury such a wonderful place to live, work and grow.”
For young people, Scouts NSW Chief Commissioner Bel Howell said having a place to come together was particularly important.
“A Scout Hall is a place where young people can try new things, challenge themselves, discover what they’re capable of, and find a place where they can belong,” Ms Howell said.
“This new hall at Kurrajong provides Scouts with a dedicated space to build friendships, develop leadership skills, confidence and determination, and create lifelong memories.”
The opening marks the completion of the Hawkesbury District Community Scout Hall project, funded by the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, and provides a new long-term home for Scouting in the region.
The facility will also be available as a community space, extending its use beyond Scouts and providing another place for people across the Hawkesbury to come together.
Scouts NSW has almost 15,000 youth and adult members across the state and provides young people aged five to 25 with opportunities to develop leadership, resilience and practical life skills through adventure and challenge.
