A Cub Scout's view of camp
Published Fri 14 Aug 2026
One of the core parts of the Scouting exerience is the opportunity to go on camps. For many of our younger members, Scout camps can be their first time sleeping away from home independently. As a youth-led, adult-supported organisation, Scouts NSW encourages our youth members to review and reflect on their experiences.

1st Hornsby Heights Koala Unit Cub Scout Arlo shared his thoughts on the Group camp from 31 July to 2 August at Camp Kariong, attended by 110 Leaders, Venturer Scouts, Scouts, Cub Scouts and Joey Scouts. With the theme Nature Unleashed, activities included bush cooking, i-Naturalist discovery, nature craft, Escape the Wilderwood (an abandoned campsite escape room concept), abseiling and archery.
On 31 July I went on a Scout camp for two nights. On the first night we unpacked our sleeping bags and we made ourselves comfy in the dorm rooms. We ate chocolate crackles in the hall. That night I didn't get any sleep!

The next day we got up and started playing activities. My favourite activity was making kangaroo meat sausage rolls. I loved playing with my friends all weekend. Another great thing was singing songs around the bonfire. That night I had a better sleep.
On Sunday morning for breakfast, we had Baloo's famous chocolate sauce! I could eat it all day.
Camp was the best; I can't wait for the next one.
