Scouts NSW is seeking expressions of interest for the role of the NSW Coordinator for the Scout International Student Exchange Program (SISEP).
The Program is a 6-8 week educational and cultural student exchange experience for Venturer-age Scouts. It encourages international goodwill and understanding between Australia and other Scouting countries, and participants are given the opportunity to experience life in another country through living with a family, attending school and participating in local Scouting activities. Exchange links currently exist between Australia and the United Kingdom, Denmark and Japan. The NSW Coordinator facilitates the participation of NSW Venturers in the Scout International Student Exchange Program, as well as the participation of local host families in hosting overseas Venturers. The NSW Coordinator reports to the NSW State International Commissioner and the National SISEP Coordinator.
Responsibilities include:
- promoting SISEP to the Venturer section;
- reviewing applications for outgoing exchange students and host families;
- assisting selected exchange students and host families to prepare for their participation in SISEP;
- being the information link between NSW participants and the National Coordinator;
- facilitating the ‘meet and greet’ for all incoming and outgoing airport arrivals and departures; and
- liaising with Regions, Groups and schools who are hosting incoming students, with students and families during the period of exchange, and with the National SISEP Coordinator and the NSW State International Commissioner.
The State Coordinator should have:
- experience in Scouting as a Leader of Youth and Adults and/or as a Youth Member;
- the ability to lead, counsel and interact with Venturers and their families;
- understanding of international Scouting activities (preferably with participation in an international contingent);
- cross-cultural awareness and understanding;
and
- strong verbal and written communication skills.
Expressions of interest can be lodged with Bob MacDonald on 0428 214 601 or email
